“Saul Bass gave us the posters for Hitchcock’s Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Psycho to The Magnificent Seven, The Shining, Schindler’s list and so many more. David Carson left his mark on the industry with his ability to get a generation to understand typography as more than just the way words were written. Ivan Chermayeff gave us logos that have withstood the test of time. George Tomasini, Thelma Schoonmaker and Michael Kahn cut films together that made us see them in ways that forever have taken residency not just in our minds, but also inside of us. Walter Murch wrote the book that opened my eyes to how it was done properly, literally and figuratively. Great design and art mediums come in many forms, and most people will immediately recognize it. The really good ones become a part of our culture. They blend into our surroundings of the everyday and only stick out when noticing what they represent or how it made you feel. They shape our reality and relationships with this world and what is in it.”
